Choosing coffee can feel a little overwhelming, especially when there are different roasts, flavour notes and brewing styles to consider. The good news is that finding the right coffee mostly comes down to how you enjoy drinking it.
If you like a stronger cup with depth and richness, a bold, full-bodied coffee is usually a good fit. These coffees work well for people who enjoy their coffee with milk, or who prefer a more intense flavour in the morning.
If you prefer something softer and easier drinking, a smooth, balanced coffee may be the better choice. These coffees are often less intense, with a rounder finish that works beautifully as a daily cup.
Your brewing method also plays a role. Plunger, moka pot, filter and espresso-style brewing can each bring out different qualities in the same coffee. If you enjoy a classic South African “lekker strong” cup, you may lean towards a darker or fuller roast. If you prefer something lighter and more gentle, a medium roast is often a great place to start.
